Google Leads Partnership Aiming to Set ‘Internet of Things’ Standard
Google, through its in-home device unit Nest Labs, has launched a group in concert with several other firms to set a standard for how internet-connected home devices communicate with each other.
The protocol is called Thread, and the partnership, which includes Google (NASDAQ: GOOG), Samsung Electronics, ARM Holdings (NASDAQ: ARMH), and others, is called the Thread Group, according to a report by Reuters. Thread is an alternative to WiFi, Bluetooth, or other networking options and has its own security and energy-efficiency features, according to a Nest product manager cited by Reuters.
